Foot injury sidelines Padgett

LAWRENCE, Kan., Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Freshman center David Padgett of Kansas will be out at least one week with a stress fracture in his left foot.

Padgett did not practice Friday after logging only nine minutes in Monday's victory over Colorado. The 6-11 center, who has supplanted Jeff Graves as the Jayhawks' starter, is averaging 7.2 points and 5.5 rebounds.

"It's in the early stages," said Coach Bill Self. "The doctors feel like it's not full-blown, and hopefully rest will take care of it. We'll sit him this week, then re-evaluate it and hopefully get him back soon after that."

Kansas is idle this weekend and does not play again until Wednesday's Big 12 home opener against Kansas State.
