NFL divisional playoffs start Saturday

FOXBORO, Mass., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- New England, sporting a 12-game winning streak and the NFL's best record at 14-2, hosts Tennessee (13-4) Saturday night in the AFC divisional playoffs.

In the NFC, St. Louis (12-4) puts a 14-game home winning streak on the line against Carolina (12-5) Saturday afternoon.

The Patriots started their roll with a 38-30 win over the Titans on Oct. 5, Despite the setback, Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair threw for 391 yards against the complex defensive schemes of Patriots coach Bill Belichick, but did not have a touchdown pass.

"We started their streak, so I'm telling the fellows that we might as well go up there and end it, said Titans linebacker Keith Bulluck.

St. Louis has won a franchise-record 14 straight games, dating to Sept. 29, 2002. The Rams outscored their opponents at home this season by an average of 17.1 points.

The Panthers, making just their second postseason appearance and first since 1996, were brilliant in the wild card round last week in a 29-10 victory over Dallas.
