NHL: Carolina 3, New York Rangers 2

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Josef Vasicek snapped out of a slump by scoring a pair of goals Thursday night as Carolina used a superb second period to defeat the New York Rangers, 3-2.

While he leads the team in goals, Vasicek went 18 games without one before scoring twice in a 99-second span of the second period to make it 3-1. He narrowly missed a natural hat trick later in the period when he hit the goalpost.
