RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Josef Vasicek snapped out of a slump by scoring a pair of goals Thursday night as Carolina used a superb second period to defeat the New York Rangers, 3-2.
While he leads the team in goals, Vasicek went 18 games without one before scoring twice in a 99-second span of the second period to make it 3-1. He narrowly missed a natural hat trick later in the period when he hit the goalpost.
Hurricanes captain Ron Francis recorded a milestone assist on Vasicek's second goal, passing Marcel Dionne into fourth place on the all-time scoring list with his 1,772nd point.
Kevyn Adams got things started in the second for the Hurricanes, scoring a highlight reel goal at 2:44 to tie it at 1-1. Carolina had a 13-7 advantage in shots during the middle period.
