TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Defenseman Mike Van Ryn scored the game-tying goal on the power play midway through the second period Wednesday to lift Florida into a 2-2 tie with Tampa Bay.
From the right faceoff circle, Van Ryn beat Lightning goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin on the glove side for his seventh goal at 9:19 of the second period. A screened Khabibulin was late in covering Van Ryn's shot to his right.
After a scoreless third period, both teams recorded four shots during a fast-paced overtime.
Viktor Kozlov tallied his ninth goal in the first period for the Panthers, who have picked up points in six of their last seven games (2-1-3-1).
Roberto Luongo made 40 saves for the Panthers, and Khabibulin turned aside 30 shots for the Lightning, who went 2-for-2 with the man-advantage after failing to convert their last 23 power plays.
