DETROIT, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Henrik Zetterberg scored his second goal of the game 2:24 into overtime Wednesday night as Detroit posted a wild 6-5 victory over Atlanta.
On a team filled with veterans, Zetterberg is one of the Red Wings' top young players. The 23-year-old Swede recently returned to the lineup after missing more than a month with a broken right leg but has shown no ill-effects.
Zetterberg took a pass from Ray Whitney at the bottom of the left faceoff circle and put a shot off the left goalpost and past Pasi Nurminen.
Zetterberg also had an assist, giving him four goals and five assists in seven games since returning to the lineup.
Pavel Datsyuk and Brett Hull each had two assists for the Red Wings, who had scored just four times in their previous four games. Detroit leads the league with 132 goals.
