Tommie Harris' wife dies

CALGARY, Alberta, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Peter Worrell and Steve Moore scored their first goals of the season Wednesday night, leading Colorado to a 2-1 victory over Calgary.
One of the top offensive teams in the NHL when healthy, the Avalanche rely heavily on Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg, two of the league's elite players.
Worrell and Moore are role players who entered this Northwest Division matchup with a combined two assists in 31 games. But they provided the scoring as the Avalanche (2-3-4) won for just the second time in nine games.
David Aebischer made the early two-goal lead stand by stopping 30 shots.
Defenseman Rhett Warrener scored a shorthanded goal in the second period for Calgary, which posted a surprising 10-3-2-0 record in December.
