RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Ruslan Salei scored a bizarre shorthanded goal Wednesday night that helped boost Anaheim past Carolina, 3-1.
Sergei Fedorov added to Carolina's special teams woes with a power-play tally.
Anaheim took the lead in the second period on Salei's second goal of the season with teammate Keith Carney serving a penalty for delay of game.
The defenseman sent a clearing attempt off the left boards that caught goaltender Kevin Weekes out of position and trickled into the net for a 2-1 lead.
Weekes was behind the net in anticipation of the dump-in and did not get back in time to stop the puck.
Fedorov scored on a five-on-three opportunity by ripping a slap shot from just inside the blue line past Weekes.
Anaheim has posted consecutive road wins for the first time since Oct. 21-29.
