MCLEAN, Va., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Connecticut, which opened the season in the top spot, returned to the No. 1 position in the Coaches college basketball poll, released Monday.
Connecticut (9-1) routed Ball State, 101-62, in its only game of the week and received 18 of 31 first-place votes and 750 points. The Huskies rose to the top spot after Kentucky (7-1) lost to Louisville, 65-56, on Saturday.
The Wildcats dropped to sixth with 596 points while Louisville (7-1) jumped from 20th to 14th.
Duke (8-1), idle last week, moved from third to second and received six first-place votes and 720 points. Georgia Tech (12-0) is third, Arizona (7-1) fourth, followed by Wake Forest (7-0)
Stanford (9-0) moved from eighth to seventh, with Oklahoma (8-0), North Carolina (7-1) and Saint Joseph's (9-0) rounding out the top 10.
