NHL: Ottawa 5, Atlanta 2

OTTAWA, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Marian Hossa scored twice Sunday as Ottawa nailed the Atlanta Thrashers, 5-2.

Also for the winners, Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and an assist as the Senators extended their season-high unbeaten streak to six games.

Defensemen Karel Rachunek and Chris Phillips snapped lengthy scoring droughts and Patrick Lalime made 21 saves for the Senators, who improved to 3


3-0 in their last six games and 8-2-3-0 this month.

Lalime raised his career record against the Thrashers to 7-1-1 while Ottawa lifted its mark against Atlanta to 13-2-2-2 all time. The Senators ran their unbeaten streak in the series to six games.

Pasi Nurminen turned aside only 19 shots for Atlanta, which had its three-game winning streak stopped.
