
PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Stanford's Dan Grunfeld scored a career-high 21 points and Matt Haryasz chipped in 15 as eighth-ranked Stanford tooka 67-37 triumph over Southern Utah.
Thanks to the duo, the Cardinal's bench outscored Southern Utah's, 43-13.
The game was tied, 5-5, before Grunfeld nailed a 3-pointer with 13:51 left in the first half to trigger a 26-2 run. He and Haryasz, who capped the burst with a pair of free throws, combined for 20 points during the run.
Grunfeld and Haryasz each had 13 points in the first half, which ended with Stanford (9-0) ahead, 40-15.
David Palmer paced Southern Utah (4-5) with seven points.
The Cardinal shot just 36 percent (17-of-47) but limited the Thunderbirds to 23 percent (12-of-52). Stanford also controlled the glass, out-rebounding Southern Utah, 43-29.
Neither team was sharp with the ball. Stanford had 11 assists against 17 turnovers, while Southern Utah had six and 20.
