Owens was injured after catching a 20-yard pass and getting tackled by safety Brian Dawkins. He immediately went to the locker room, where X-rays revealed the injury.

Owens returned to the Niners' sideline in the second half smiling and talking on a cell phone.

Known for his assortment of end zone celebrations and volatile temper, Owens is in the final year of his contract with the Niners. He was named to his fourth Pro Bowl on Thursday and finished the season with 80 catches for 1,102 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Niners are no longer in playoff contention and close their season next weekend against Seattle.
