NFL: Chicago 27, Washington 24

CHICAGO, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- A 45-yard field goal by Paul Edinger into a swirling wind Sunday gave the Chicago Bears a 27-24 win over Washington.

It was the Bears' fourth victory in five games. After missing a pair of field goals wide right earlier in the game on a blustery day at Soldier Field, Edinger booted his game-winner hard to the left and let the wind carry it between the uprights.

The Redskins (5-10) had tied the game at 24-24 on a 19-yard pass from Tim Hasselbeck to Laveranues Coles with 12:52 left. Hasselbeck completed 16-of-25 for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but the Redskins still lost for the fifth time in their last six games.

Chicago rookie Rex Grossman, who played for Washington coach Steve Spurrier at the University of Florida, was 19-of-32 for 249 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
