DENVER, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- The Colorado Rockies have come to terms with veteran free agent outfielder Jeromy Burnitz on a one-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Burnitz, 34, split last season with the New York Mets and Los Angeles, batting .239 with 31 home runs and 77 RBI in 126 games. He will be joining his fifth team and is a lifetime .251 hitter with 238 homers and 735 RBI in 1,273 games.
Burnitz made his lone All-Star appearance with Milwaukee in 1999, when he batted .270 with 33 homers and 103 RBI.
In addition to signing Burnitz, the Rockies have failed to tender contracts to outfielder Jay Payton, infielder Kit Pellow, and righthander Scott Elarton, granting the trio free agency.
The move not to tender Payton is the biggest surprise. He set career highs in nearly every offensive category last season after batting .302 with 28 homers and 89 RBI.
