Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Okland agreed to terms with Erubiel Durazo on a one-year contract Saturday, avoiding arbitration on the designated hitter-first baseman.
After being acquired from Arizona in a four-team deal in December 2002, Durazo fell short of Oakland's expectations last season, despite posting career highs of 21 home runs, 77 RBI and 92 runs scored.
The 28-year-old Mexican, a member of the 2001 world champion Diamondbacks, batted .259 in 154 games with 139 hits and 100 walks.
In 441 career games, Durazo owns a .270 average with 68 homers and 226 RBI.
Oakland also announced it will not offer contracts to infielder Frank Menechino and pitchers Mark Redman and Jeremy Fikac, making them free agents.
