Roethlisberger to turn pro

MOBILE, Ala., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Shortly after leading Miami Ohio to a 49-32 victory over Louisville in the GMAC Bowl on Thursday night, Ben Roethlisberger announced he would turn pro.

Roethlisberger, the Miami quarterback, had one year of eligibility remaining. He has been projected as a high first-round pick in the NFL draft.

A native of Findlay, Ohio, Roethlisberger led the RedHawks to 13 straight wins, the nation's longest current streak. He finished his junior season throwing for 4,486 yards and 37 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

Roethlisberger and Eli Manning of Mississippi are considered the top two quarterbacks available in the April draft.
