SAN ANTONIO, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Coach Gregg Popovich, who guided the San Antonio Spurs to their second NBA title last season, received a multi-year contract extension Tuesday.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Popovich's extension carries through the 2007-08 season.
The 2003 NBA Coach of the Year, Popovich also serves as the team's executive vice president of basketball operations. He is in his eighth year as coach of the Spurs and has a career mark of 355-195.
Also an assistant to Larry Brown on the 2004 Olympic team, Popovich and Phil Jackson of the Los Angeles Lakers are the only current coaches who have won NBA titles.
Popovich guided the Spurs to the championship in the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season and again last season.
