Heatley's return to practice postponed

ATLANTA, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Dany Heatley's return to the practice ice was postponed Monday.

He had been expected to skate Monday for the first time since the car accident that took the life of teammate Dan Snyder, but the session was postponed after he felt soreness in his surgically repaired knee.

An All-Star right wing with the Atlanta Thrashers, Heatley, 22, tore his right ACL and MCL when he slammed his Ferrari into a pillar on Sept. 29. He also fractured his jaw and suffered damage to the lateral meniscus in the knee.

Following surgery and rehabilitation, Heatley is considered well ahead of schedule, but the team played it cautiously Monday, delaying his first on-ice session.

Snyder was a passenger in the car, which was traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour.
