
MILWAUKEE, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have exercised the contract option on Ned Yost" class="tpstyle">Manager Ned Yost for the 2005 season.
General Manager Doug Melvin said the team also added a contract option for 2006.
Yost, 48, went just 68-94 in his first season as Brewers skipper, but it was a 12-game improvement from 2002. He was lauded for earning the respect of players, media, and fans with his positive attitude.
"Ned's enthusiasm, desire, and work ethic were contagious in our clubhouse last season," Melvin said. "He had an impact on our improvement last year and it is evident that he is the right person to lead us through our baseball plan."
Before joining the Brewers, Yost spent 15 seasons in the Atlanta Braves' organization as a major league coach and minor league manager. He was a backup catcher for the Brewers' pennant-winning team in 1982.
