Redskin QB Ramsey ends season with injury

WASHINGTON, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Washington Redskins quarterback Patrick Ramsey announced Monday he will end his season to undergo surgery on his injured right foot.

The Washington Post said the surgery, which could be performed this week, will require about 10 weeks of rehabilitation before Ramsey can run again.

Ramsey told reporters: "We just really felt like it wasn't going to get better by the end of the season. This gives me a head start" on the rehabilitation program.

Ramsey was benched for all but two series of the Redskins' last three games. He attempted to return to the lineup last week, but aggravated the injury with a misstep during a practice session.

The newspaper said he's suffering from a bone bruise and the aggravation of an old fracture in the fifth metatarsal on the outside of his right foot.

He told reporters he hopes to schedule the operation this week with a specialist in Charlotte, N.C. He said the procedure will likely involve repairing a tendon, as well as a bone.
