Tuberville to remain as Auburn's FB coach

AUBURN, Ala., Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Tommy Tuberville will remain Auburn's football coach although school officials last week admitted talking with Louisville's Bobby Petrino for the post.

Auburn president William Walker later said his meeting with Petrino was a mistake.

Tuberville, speaking during a Monday news conference, said: "Dr. Walker said that he made a mistake. I have no ill feelings toward anybody. We're in this together."

Last year, Tuberville signed a five-year contract extension, but the Tigers concluded a regular season of high expectations at just 7-5.

That led to reports the Tigers were interested in Petrino, a one-time Auburn assistant. Petrino, who replaced John Smith, has guided the Cardinals to an 8-4 record.

Tuberville is 37-24 in five seasons at Auburn and has won at least a share of three Southeastern Conference West Division titles.
