MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 30 (UPI) -- An impressive rout of Arkansas did nothing to improve the position of LSU when the latest USA Today/ESPN coaches poll was announced on Sunday.
The Tigers (11-1) buried the Razorbacks, 55-24, but remained No. 3 behind top-ranked Oklahoma and No.2 USC. The win did allow the Tigers to capture the SEC West Division title and berth opposite Georgia in the conference title game next Saturday.
Oklahoma (12-0), which again was a unanimous No. 1 with 63 first-place votes and 1,575 points, and the Trojans (10-1) is followed by the Tigers, Bulldogs, Texas, Ohio State), Tennessee, Florida State, and Miami (Fla.) in the top ten.
Iowa heads the second ten, followed by Purdue, Kansas State, Washington State, Miami of Ohio, Florida, Boise State, Mississippi, TCU, and Minnesota.
In the final five spots were Nebraska, which fired Coach Frank Solich on Saturday despite having nine wins and being bowl eligible, Oklahoma State, Bowling Green, West Virginia, and Maryland.
