Petrino comes clean about Auburn talk

LOUISVILE, Ky., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino may be able to have a peaceful next few days after his Cardinals won at Cincinnati, 43-40, on Friday.

Petrino was in the spotlight this week after a story in the Louisville Courier-Journal that he had a secret meeting this week with the president of Auburn about that school's job.

The paper reported that Tommy Tuberville, who is still Auburn's coach, was unaware of the meeting.

Petrino fessed up about it before U of L met the Bearcats.

"I told (the players) exactly what was going on," Petrino said. "I told them, I'm the head coach at the University of Louisville, I'm going to continue to be the coach, and none of you players have anything to worry about.'"

Louisville (9-3), which opened the year with wins over Kentucky and Syracuse, ended it with two straight wins. The paper said the school could be eligible for either the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala., or Sheraton Hawaii Bowl in Honolulu on Christmas Day.
