SUNRISE, Fla., Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Defenseman Mathieu Biron scored the game-winner against his older brother Monday to lead the Florida Panthers to a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
Biron gave Florida a 2-0 lead with 1:43 left in the first period with his first goal ever against his brother, Martin Biron. Mathieu Biron came down on a rush and tipped in Stephen Weiss' shot from the left faceoff circle.
With a three-year difference between the siblings, they had never face each other in the junior or the minor leagues. It was the first time a player scored on his brother since Phil Esposito, while with the New York Rangers, scored on his brother Tony Esposito, who was in goal for the Chicago Blackhawks, in 1980.
Weiss opened the scoring at 12:40 with a power-play goal.
Roberto Luongo made 36 saves for the Panthers. Martin Biron had 22 saves.
