A mainstay in New York City's health and fitness landscape for more than 30 years, NYHRC has been committed to helping its members lead a comprehensive healthy lifestyle. The four-week QuitSmoke program, designed and led for 30 years by NYHRC's on-staff nutritionist Jackie Storm, combines education, behavior modification and group support, explains a spokesperson for the club.

The "fee" is a $40 donation to the American Cancer Society, with NYHRC matching the donation for each participant. The NYHRC QuitSmoke program has raised more than $150,000 in the past three decades.

The Great American Smokeout Award was created by the American Cancer Society as a way of publicly recognizing outstanding dedication and accomplishments in the area of tobacco control. The award is bestowed upon individuals and organizations that have distinguished themselves as leaders in tobacco control and champions in the fight against cancer.
