Mets fire Singer because of Dodgers' Ng

NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Bill Singer's insensitive remarks to Los Angeles Dodgers assistant General Manager Kim Ng have cost him his job with the New York Mets.

Hired earlier this month as a special assistant to General Manager Jim Duquette, Singer was dismissed after a review of an incident that took place between Singer and Ng during the general managers meetings last weekend.

According to numerous media reports, Singer reportedly made inappropriate and racially insensitive remarks to Ng, one of the highest-ranking women executives in baseball.

A former major league pitcher who spent the 2003 season as an assistant to Pirates General Manager Dave Littlefield, Singer apologized to Ng immediately following the incident. But the Mets dismissed him Tuesday.

"As a matter of policy, our organization can not and will not tolerate any comment or conduct by an employee that suggests insensitivity or intolerance to any racial, ethnic or religious group," Duquette said.
