HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Defensive tackle Josh Evans of the New York Jets, who was reinstated by the NFL earlier this month, has been activated by the team.

In June, he was suspended by the NFL for violating the league's substance-abuse policy for a third time. He was reinstated by the league on Nov. 4.

Evans was suspended twice in six seasons with the Tennessee Titans, missing four games in 1999 and all of 2000.

He started all 16 games for the Jets last season, registering 58 tackles and six sacks. The 6-3, 280-pounder has collected 283 tackles and 20 1/2 sacks in 87 career games.

To make room for Evans on the roster, the Jets placed free safety Jon McGraw on injured reserve. McGraw suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday's 38-31 loss at Indianapolis.
