LAKE FOREST, Ill., Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Chicago Bears running back Adrian Peterson has been placed on the injured reserve list, ending his season.
Peterson had been out since suffering a high left ankle sprain in Week 7, when he made his first NFL start in the 24-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
In the contest, he had 55 yards on 16 carries before leaving in the second half.
Peterson, who set an NCAA record for all-time rushing yards (6,543) while at Georgia Southern, was inactive each of the last three games for Chicago (3-6). The 5-10, 210-pounder had 70 yards on 22 carries after rushing 19 times for 101 yards as a rookie in 2002.
To take Peterson's roster spot, the Bears signed guard Oasim Mitchell from the practice squad.
The Bears host the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
