HOMESTEAD, Fla., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A wild finish at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Ford 200 on Friday saw Travis Kvapil win the closest championship race in series history.
Bobby Hamilton won the race, overtaking Rick Crawford on the last lap and holding on by a car-length. The race for the title was closer and more dramatic.
Brendan Gaughan held the points lead for most of the season but came in with just a 26-point lead over Ted Musgrave. It was another eight points back to Kvapil and five more to Dennis Setzer, with all four gunning for the title.
Gaughan was running seventh, ahead of the other three drivers and in position to clinch the title. With 33 laps to go, Andy Houston lost control of his truck and clipped the rear right side of Gaughan's Dodge.
Gaughan spun into the wall, then slid down the track and was rammed from behind by Bryan Reffner.
