OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Calbert Cheaney scored four of his season-high 24 points in overtime Wednesday night, allowing Golden State to edge Detroit, 87-85.
Detroit set an NBA record by going unbeaten in eight overtime games during the 2002-03 season. The Pistons also won two postseason games in overtime, but had their 10-game run ended with their first overtime loss since April 17, 2001.
Cheaney hit a runner with 1:44 to go and made a baseline jumper to give Golden State an 85-82 edge with 19 seconds left. After Detroit's Richard Hamilton threw an errant pass into the stands, Mike Dunleavy, Jr. sank one of two from the line.
Chauncey Billups sank a long three-pointer from the top of the circle for the Pistons, but Warriors guard Nick Van Exel made one of two free throws with 4.5 seconds to play.
