Biffle wins Busch pole

HOMESTEAD, Fla., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Defending NASCAR Busch Series champion Greg Biffle won the pole Thursday for Saturday's season-ending Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Biffle, who has been running full-time on the Winston Cup circuit, scored his eighth career Busch pole with a speed of 177.416 miles per hour and a top lap of 30.437 seconds around the 1 1/2-mile oval in his Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Bobby Hamilton Jr. qualified second in a Ford Taurus at 177.352 mph. Hamilton enters the year-ending 34th race fifth in the championship standings, 89 points behind Brian Vickers, who was sixth at 176.465 mph.

Hamilton has won a series-best four races, including two of the last four.

David Green will make his bid for the title from the 12th spot. Green, the 1994 Busch Series champion, is 22 points behind Vickers in second place.
