Texas baseball coach has hip replacement

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Texas' Augie Garrido, winningest coach in college baseball history, underwent hip replacement surgery Tuesday.

The school said he should be ready for spring practice.

Garrido, 64, opted for surgery to address recurring back problems.

Garrido will remain hospitalized until receiving clearance to fly in a few days.

Garrido has an NCAA-record 1,430 wins and guided the Longhorns to the 2002 national championship. He also coached Cal State-Fullerton to three College World Series titles.
