Bill Elliott wins NASCAR race

ROCKINGHAM, N.C., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Bill Elliott, 48, dominated Sunday's NASCAR 400 race in his Dodge Intrepid while Matt Kenseth, 31, won the Winston Cup title with a third-place finish.

Elliott was in the lead on a restart on lap 337, eight laps after Ricky Rudd and Ricky Craven crashed in turn 2. He stayed in front for the final portion of the race, giving up the lead for just one lap when he made his final pit stop on lap 370 of the 393-lap race.

The final caution period came on lap 375 when Ken Schrader crashed in the first turn. Eight laps later, the green flag waved with Elliott ahead of Jimmie Johnson's Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Kenseth's Ford Taurus, Jeremy Mayfield's Dodge and Tony Raines' Chevrolet.

Mayfield passed Kenseth for third place with six laps remaining as Elliott pulled away from Johnson to earn his 44th career NASCAR victory.
