NBA: Minnesota 88, Miami 79

MIAMI, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Kevin Garnett collected 25 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks Saturday as Minnesota held off Miami, 88-79, dropping Stan Van Gundy's coaching record to 0-6.

With the Cleveland defeating Washington, the Heat are the only winless team in the NBA.

Sam Cassell added 23 points and Latrell Sprewell 15 for Minnesota, which has had a successful couple of days in Florida.

Minnesota trailed, 41-40, at the half but opened the third quarter on a 15-4 run and took a 68-57 edge into the final 12 minutes. Garnett scored nine points in the quarter.

The Timberwolves opened a 78-59 advantage on a jumper by Sprewell with 7:20 left.

Eddie Jones scored 21 points and Wade 19 for the Heat, who are off to their worst start since dropping the first 17 games in their inaugural 1988-89 season.
