Red Sox to build seats on Fenway roof

BOSTON, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- A year after adding seats atop the "Green Monster" in left field, the Boston Red Sox plan to construct seats on the right field roof at Fenway Park.

The team placed temporary bleachers on the roof for the 2003 playoffs and received positive feedback from the fans who sat there.

"This will be another cool place to watch a game," said team president Larry Lucchino. "As we consider Fenway improvements for 2004, we begin by creating a destination for fans who wish to enjoy a new vista, a new perspective and a new experience within the park. It should also be an ideal venue for group outings."

The capacity of the ballpark will remain unchanged since the club will be converting standing room to fixed seats.Team officials are considering clusters of chairs around home-plate-shaped tables to create a new ballpark viewing environment.

The club plans to reinforce the roof and columns to support the new and improved deck.
