Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

VALENCIA, Spain, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Great Britain and Ireland took the early lead over Continental Europe Thursday at The Seve Trophy team competition.
GB&I owned a 3 1/2-1 1/2 advantage in the Ryder Cup-style event.
Lee Westwood and David Howell teamed to beat tournament host Seve Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal, 2-up.
Brian Davis and Paul Casey claimed a 2 & 1 triumph over Ignacio Garrido and Miguel Angel Jimenez while Phillip Price and Padraig Harrington picked up a 2-up win over Thomas Bjorn and Sergio Garcia.
Colin Montgomerie and Paul Lawrie halved their match against Fredrik Jacobson and Niclas Fasth. The only Continental Europe win came from Alex Cejka and Raphael Jacquelin, who scored a 4 & 3 victory over Justin Rose and Paul Casey.
