Knicks place McDyess on IL; waive Knight

NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- The New York Knicks Monday put Antonio McDyess and two rookies -- Maciej Lampe and Slavko Vranes -- on IL and waived Travis Knight and Matt Carroll.

There was no doubt that McDyess was going to start the season where he spent the entire 2002-03 campaign -- on the injured list. The star forward still has not been cleared for full-contact practice and may not be ready to return until December.

After missing all of last season with a fractured left kneecap, McDyess underwent additional surgery on the knee last May.

New York acquired McDyess and the draft rights to Frank Williams from Denver for Marcus Camby, Mark Jackson and the draft rights to Nene Hilario in June 2002.

McDyess, who played for the gold medal-winning 2000 Olympic team, has career averages of 17.6 points and 8.6 rebounds over seven seasons with Denver and Phoenix.
