Various reports said Daly made the move after being told by PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem that he could not play again until he received treatment for his drinking.
Daly's behavior has been increasingly erratic and he has performed badly on the PGA Tour in recent months, even though he won the Korean Open just two weeks ago.
It was on his return to the United States that he checked into a rehab center.
The two-time major championship winner also was treated for alcoholism in 1992 and 1997.
It has been a tough year for Daly, whose fourth wife, Sherrie, has been charged as part of a drug ring and faces up to 20 years in prison.
