Dokic advances in Austria

LINZ, Austria, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Jelena Dokic overcame Petra Mandula, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, to reach the quarterfinals Thursday at the Generali Ladies Linz.

A former top-five player who has struggled this season, the 20-year-old Yugoslavian is coming off a runner-up showing at last week's Swisscom Challenge. She had not won consecutive matches since July before arriving at Zurich.

Dokic will play Ai Sugiyama on Friday. The second seed from Japan defeated Slovenia's Tina Pisnik, 6-3, 7-5.

Third seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia cruised past Marion Bartoli of France, 6-2, 6-3. No. 6 Anna Pistolesi of Israel will be Zvonareva's foe on Friday after dispatching Slovenian qualifier Maja Matevzic, 6-3, 6-4.
