ARCADIA, Calif., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Analysis of Breeders' Cup Classic
You know it's an excellent field when the defending champion, Volponi, and this year's Kentucky Derby winner, Funny Cide, are both longshots.
The 3-1 morning-line favorite is Medaglia d'Oro. Listed at 7-2 is Perfect Drift.
Illinois Derby, Travers Stakes and Super Derby winner Ten Most Wanted is third pick at 4-1 and Congaree was pegged at 6-1. Funny Cide was put at 8-1 and Volponi at 15-1.
The race looks like a pace duel between Congaree and Medalia d'Oro, with Perfect Drift, Ten Most Wanted and Volponi among those staying close through the early going.
Medaglia d'Oro, although he did win the Travers at 1 1/4 mile last year, has not been at his best at this distance against top company. Congaree also has weakened in the stretch.
A wild card is Hold That Tiger, who finished third in last year's Juvenile after a horrible break.
Picks: Perfect Drift, Ten Most Wanted, Congaree.
