Successful knee surgery for Stackhouse

WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Washington Wizards forward Jerry Stackhouse has undergone successful surgery to alleviate pain in his right knee.

The timetable for his return will be determined by the progress of his rehabilitation and how the knee responds to treatment.

Dr. David Altchek and team physician Dr. Steve Haas at New York's Hospital performed the arthroscopic procedure for Special Surgery.

"The doctors tell us that the surgery was successful and that they performed the necessary procedures to address the discomfort in Jerry's knee," said President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld. "Jerry is a very competitive person and I know he will do everything he can to rehab in the most efficient and effective was possible and get back to help his teammates in any way he can."

Stackhouse, who averaged a team-best 21.5 points in 70 games for the Wizards last season, had an MRI on Oct. 14 and was diagnosed with chondromalacia, a wearing of the lining on the back of the kneecap.
