NHL: Pittsburgh 1, Carolina 1 (OT)

Oct. 22, 2003 at 11:04 PM

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Rookie Marc-Andre Fleury made 35 saves Wednesday night as Pittsburgh skated to a 1-1 tie with Carolina.

In three games, Fleury -- the top pick in June's draft -- has made 112 saves while allowing just six goals. His only mistake in this one came when he lost control of the puck outside the crease and former Penguin Ron Francis slipped it past him with 7:36 left in the second period.

The Penguins took a 1-0 lead with nine seconds remaining in the first. With Pittsburgh on the power play, Mario Lemieux's shot hit the goalpost and found its way to Aleksey Morozov, who beat Kevin Weekes for his second goal of the season.

But the Penguins mustered only 12 shots in the final 45 minutes, squandering a power-play chance in overtime to remain in search of their second win of the season.
