MLB: N.Y. Yankees 6, Florida 1

MIAMI, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Hideki Matsui snapped an eighth-inning tie with a two-out RBI single Tuesday night as the New York Yankees beat Florida, 6-1, in Game Three of the World Series.

The winners exploded for four runs in the ninth on a solo home run by Aaron Boone and a three-run blast by Bernie Williams on a soggy night in South Florida.

Mike Mussina (1-0) matched Marlins ace Josh Beckett in a tense pitchers' duel and gave the Yankees a two games to one lead in the Fall Classic. He was able to escape a couple of late jams and kept the game tied heading into the eighth.

Mussina gave up one run and seven hits in seven innings with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Beckett, a tough-luck loser, allowed two runs and three hits, all by Derek Jeter, in 7 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out 10.

Williams' blast gave him 19 homers and 65 RBI, both career postseason records.
