Dent ousts Schalken in first round

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- American Taylor Dent eliminated No. 2 Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands, 6-3, 7-5,Tuesday from the first round of the Stockholm Open.

Dent has won consecutive titles at Bangkok and Moscow and has not lost since retiring from his fourth-round encounter with Andre Agassi at the U.S. Open, extending his winning streak to 10 matches.

Dent, 22, next faces countryman Robby Ginepri, a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Belgian Kristof Vliegen.

Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela dispatched seventh-seeded South African Wayne Ferreira, 6-4, 6-2, and Frenchman Gregory Carraz toppled No. 8 Jarkko Nieminen of Finland, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-2.

Fifth seed Mardy Fish of the United States won 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) Julien Benneteau of France beat Jurgen Melzer" class="tpstyle">Austrian Jurgen Melzer, 6-1, 6-1.

Three-time champion Thomas Enqvist of Sweden beat Hicham Arazi of Morocco, 7-5, 6-3.
