Chiefs, Raiders renew bitter rivalry

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The NFL Monday night spotlight falls upon Oakland, where the struggling Raiders host the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs.

The Raiders have been in a freefall since being shellacked by Tampa Bay in Super Bowl XXXVII in January.

Last season, the Chiefs led the league with 467 points followed by the Raiders with 450. So far this year, Kansas City is averaging more than 32 points per game this season, and the Raiders have crashed to an average of just more than 19 points per game.

Last week, Oakland (2-4) committed an NFL season-high 19 penalties, one shy of their 1996 league record, in a 13-7 loss at Cleveland.

It appears finger pointing has surfaced.

"We are not a smart football team," said quarterback Rick Gannon. "That is well-documented. We talk about penalties every week. It's a lack of discipline and it's inexcusable."

The Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings (6-0) are the NFL's lone remaining unbeaten teams.
