Rix to remain starter at Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden says Chris Rix will continue to be his starting quarterback.

Rix had a disappointing performance last Saturday against second-ranked Miami in a 22-14 Seminoles loss, the fourth in a row to the Hurricanes and first of the season. On a rainy day, he completed 20-of-42 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns, but lost two fumbles and had two interceptions.

In his career, Rix is just 3-5 against ranked opponents and has turned the ball over 10 times in three starts against Miami, and was booed by the home crowd at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee.

"There's no doubt about it, Chris Rix gives us the best chance to win," Bowden said. "There is no question on that."

Despite last week's loss, Florida State (5-1, 4-0 ACC) leads the nation in scoring defense (9.83 ppg), and is seventh in total defense (265.67 ypg).
