ELMIRA, Ontario, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Atlanta Thrashers center Dan Snyder was buried in his hometown Friday, five days after he died of head injuries suffered in a one-car accident.
The driver of that veicle, teammate Dany Heatley, attended the funeral on crutches and wore a cast on his right leg.
After a private burial in the morning, the Snyder family and members of the Thrashers walked from the family residence to Elmire Mennonite Church for a 90-minute service.
Among those attending the service for the 25-year-old Snyder were NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, Toronto Maple Leafs President Ken Dryden and several former players from Snyder's minor league teams in Chicago and Orlando.
Heatley, who suffered a broken jaw and knee ligament damage in the accident, has been charged with veicular homicide.
The Thrashers held a ceremony before Thursday night's season-opening 2-1 win over Columbus.
