OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- It appears Terrence Long is unhappy being an outfielder for the Oakland Athletics.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday that Long, who had a season-long personality clash with Manager Ken Macha, wants to be traded.

"Last night showed me I don't need to be here again,'' Long told the paper shortly after he was called out on strikes with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday night to end Oakland's season in a 4-3 loss to Boston in the deciding game of their American League Division Series. ""There are 25 guys on the team, and (Macha) shook every one of their hands, and he made it a point to walk right by me (without a handshake)."

"Obviously, Terrence is personally frustrated with a disappointing season," General Manager Billy Beane told the paper. "I think his comments are way off base.''

Long, who is signed through 2005, hit just .245 this season and saw his on-base percentage slip to .293.
