Four-way tie at Las Vegas Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Stuart Appleby, Steve Flesch, Craig Barlow and Dan Forsman shot 62 Wednesday to share the lead in what will be a low-scoring Las Vegas Invitational.

Appleby and Flesch recorded their rounds at the par-72 Southern Highlands Golf Club while Forsman and Barlow played the par-71 Canyons course.

This tournament annually produces some of the lowest scores of the PGA Tour season. Only 28 of the 144 players in the field failed to break par Wednesday.

Among those a shot off the lead were Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland.

Appleby finished his round with six straight birdies.

"I have never had a finish like that," he said. "I guess I ran out of holes. You try to stay out of your own way."

Chip Beck posted a 59 during the third round of the 1991 event.
