Tommie Harris' wife dies

DENVER, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- The Denver Broncos on Monday waived safety Lee Flowers, who was serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Flowers, 30, signed as a free agent with the Broncos in June with team officials aware that he would miss the first four games of the season for violating the policy, allegedly for steroids.
His suspension expired on Sept. 29, but the Broncos used a one-week roster exemption, forcing Flowers to miss Sunday's 24-23 loss at Kansas City.
On Monday, Shanahan decided to waive him.
The Broncos have been using Kenoy Kennedy and Nick Ferguson at strong safety and Sam Brandon at free safety.
