NFL names rookies of the month

NEW YORK, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Arizona receiver Anquan Boldin and Baltimore linebacker Terrell Suggs were named Thursday as the NFL's offensive and defensive Rookies of the Month.

Boldin is off to the best start of any rookie receiver in NFL history. His 464 yards receiving lead the NFL and eclipsed the previous rookie high of 417 yards after four games by Buffalo Bills receiver Jerry Butler in 1979.

Boldin's 30 receptions, second-most in the league, topped New England wideout Deion Branch's 28 catches at this point last season.

A second-round pick out of Florida State, Boldin had the most prolific game for a receiver in his first NFL game, catching 10 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns in a Sept. 7 loss to Detroit.

Suggs had a sack in each of Baltimore's four games and leads all rookies in that category.
